Every year, the Plateau Man of the Year Awards (PMYA) asks one question: who has done work worth celebrating? In its 12th edition, the answer comes with a new sense of purpose. The theme for 2026 is Leadership Beyond Politics: Building a Legacy for Future Generations, and the guiding idea is simply called The Standard.
What “The Standard” means
The Standard is more than a slogan. It is a statement of intent: a commitment to recognise genuine impact, to protect the integrity of the process and to set a benchmark for the kind of leadership and service that deserves recognition in Plateau State. It applies to the people we honour and to the way we run the awards.
Recognition based on impact
Nominees are judged on verifiable achievements. That means real projects, real results and evidence that can be checked, rather than reputation alone.
A process people can trust
PMYA keeps voting simple: every shortlisted nominee goes up for free public voting, and anyone can vote once per award using their email address. The process is supervised by the Advisory Board so that the outcome is trusted.
More than a ceremony
Founded on 27 August 2014, PMYA has grown into a movement for impact, accountability and transformation. Alongside the awards night, the platform runs several legacy initiatives:
- The PMYA Hall of Fame, which preserves the stories of Plateau’s icons
- The PMYA Impact Forum, an annual roundtable on governance, enterprise and youth empowerment
- The PMYA Legacy Magazine, documenting Plateau’s finest achievers
- The PMYA Community Impact Fund, supporting youth-led enterprises and NGOs
Looking ahead to the 2026 gala
The PMYA Excellence & Impact Awards Gala takes place on Sunday, 10 January 2027 at the Usiju World Events Centre, Jos. The red carpet opens at 2:00 PM and the main event begins at 4:00 PM. The dress code is elegant traditional attire.
How you can take part
There are many ways to be part of the 12th chapter. You can nominate a deserving leader or organisation, vote once public voting opens, reserve a corporate table, partner with us as a sponsor, donate to the Community Impact Fund or volunteer with the organising team.
Who will rise next to embody the spirit of service, excellence and unity that defines the Plateau dream? The journey continues, and your nomination could be the next chapter.
